Submission 26 - Kate Nepveu

(NOTE: Because of the unusual nature of this submission, a little extra presentation using HTML tags was required to make it readily understandable)

A collection of fragmentary prophecies recently came to light. Their age is uncertain, but they appear to date at least from before the Age of Legends. Presented here are the interpretations with some of the fragments by way of illustration.

"If a person's mother was the moon, [the person] could find her by ... where she left *her face*! Or the raven's face, the eye of the raven! Queen of Hearts, and the Jack is going to find her."

  • --Mat is captured by the Seanchan. While recovering from the loss of his eye, he encounters the Daughter of the Nine Moons, also a prisoner. Mat, now the one-eyed jack, tries to pull down not a bad King, but a bad _Queen_--the Empress--and replace her with the DotNM. It's unclear from the fragments whether the DotNM is looking for a biological mother or a symbolic one in her quest for the throne.

    --

"Life _is_ pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."

  • --The girls use the bowl to break the weather. Moghedien and Moridin are attracted by the strong channeling. In the ensuing battle, Moghedien's mindtrap is broken. Moridin uses the True Power for their escape. Birgitte dies; Elayne is inconsolable. Lan is mortally wounded. Thom recognizes one of the ter'angreal the girls found in Ebou Dar as a gateway to *finnland. He rescues Moiraine, saving Lan from death. Moiraine has no memory of anything after she fell into *finnland. There is no sign of Lanfear.

    "Restless hearts sleep alone tonight...
And loving a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be"

  • --Despite many speaking looks, Moiraine goes to Rand. Thom remains with Elayne.

    --

"Face to face sounds mostly like an echo
Where we touch is mostly like a bruise"

  • --Faile is kidnapped by the Whitecloaks. Perrin, now forced to commit to the ax, kills the leader, rescues Faile, and manages to put a tight leash on the Prophet. Things get worse instead of better with their marriage, however: Faile was broken by events, and thus Perrin feels responsible for her yet not-so-subconsciously associates her with the life of violence he hates.

    --

"Intent and outcome are so _rarely_ coincident."

  • --Egwene arrives at Tar Valon and begins battle. Seaine and Pevera discover the existence and extent of the Black Ajah. The news of this during battle changes the dynamic from the Tar Valon AS against the Salidar AS to the BA against everyone else. What's left of the BA escapes after inflicting heavy losses. Elaida is deposed, tried, and exiled. The Tower is united, but Halima remains near Egwene and undiscovered.

    --

"This much madness is too much sorrow
It's impossible to make it today..."

  • --Rand's madness is temporarily eased by the partial healing of the land, but then LTT comes back full force. The Asha'man show similar symptoms.

    --

"The price of getting what you want is getting what once you wanted."

  • --Cadsuane tells him how to exorcise LTT, but he gets carried away and tries to exorcise the taint as well. He gets rid of LTT, but is stilled and partially blinded. Since Rand does not know that stilling can be healed, he falls into deepest shame and despair, renouncing his position as the Dragon Reborn and deserting his followers.
