My boys have made themselves a new friend - no, wait - they've found a new idol, now Jeff has to share his pedestal as Koolest Dude in the World. Darryl Sheakley stopped by on Thursday afternoon, on his way to Chicago, almost exactly at noon. I yanked my stuck door open to find him in my hallway, all 6 feet or so of him, spiky blond hair, blue eyes and a mischievous grin. If you've visited his web page(and if you haven't, you really should!), you've seen a drawing of a guy with a pen, wild hair, and two earrings in his left ear. That's Darryl. No, really, it is! My first thought upon opening the door was "He looks like his comic!" Make of that what you will, I guess. It isn't uncomplimentary. The kids had been poring over his page earlier in the day, thrilled to have the chance to meet a real live comic book artist, the two of them being at the age where comic books are getting to be a big deal. I'd venture to say that Alex was fairly drooling. (They still haven't shut up about him, they even regaled Jeff with their tale of meeting an artist at dinner this afternoon.) The apartment being still a little damp, I thought it best to go out for lunch, so we piled into the Taurus for a trip to Hot Sizzling Wok. Darryl presented the boys with Kosmic Kat books (which they are now *sleeping* with - so much for teddy bears!), and Mark and I received a copy of "Glass" (way cool, definitely not for kids, though!) and, after lunch, signed prints of his drawings of Aviendha and Rand. Our visit was short, but we still managed to gossip about the newsgroup, talk about memorable posts and their authors, funny exchanges - and Socials. We had a wonderful time, Darryl shared pictures of his Weimeraner and his cat, and a picture of his wife Amber, whom he has promised to bring to the CPDFS. Yay, I won't be the only short chick around! WhooHoo! Darryl, it was truly a pleasure to meet you, I'm really looking forward to seeing you and Amber in September. And you *will* ride at least one roller coaster with me, I don't care *how* drunk I have to get you. So there. -- Maggie UIN 10248195 http://www.chocolatefiends.com "I will. For chocolate."
