This was my first social, and I'd like to thank Maggie for badgering me into going when I had planned to just let it go. Friday's dinner was absolutely amazing [heaping yet more thanks and praise on Maggie for everything]. At this point I may as well get these out of the way so I can continue with the story: Many thanks to Anne for giving us a place to crash and massive amounts of food and drink, Thanks to Jeff, Steve, and Anne for only letting us get lost once or twice, Thanks to Alex for driving the minivan in spite of everything, and Thanks to all the rest for making me a Darkfriend forever. Now, (I believe I was up to dinner), afterwards was, of course, very entertaining and became more so as I went through five different kinds of booze. Being the Newbie, I was picked on endlessly, but with a little practice I was returning fire against the best of em. (Except maybe Kenn who was hitting on me and everyone else, but me above all) Then again, I dealt with him too. "Bitch!" *flicks hand appropiately* That's the only quote I have on hand but many more will be forthcoming from Leah "Super Darkfriend" Cole who was in misery much of the time, but still came and had a good time. Um, where was I, Friday night (cont.): After general merriment Alex, Maggie and I are the last to turn in at 5:30 a.m. Unfortunately, I'm up at 8:30 for no good reason, and not going back to sleep. So we kill some time, pile into a car and a minivan and head to the art fair. The weather... well, it's Michigan, 'nuff said. The art was really cool, and there were many shiny objects to keep Kenn occupied. Also of note is the Dawn Treader used book store which is a veritable treasure trove. We end up back at Anne's after making an attempt on the life of a barrel with Alex's minivan, and decide we need to get back to Ann Arbor ASAP because the only good sushi place we know of will stop seating people in half an hour. [more thanks to Jeff for exerting his considerable influence and getting a table for 10 people almost 15 mins too late] Rushed though it was, dinner was excellent and I lost my "Sushi virginity" without a blink. The main feature once we got back was 'The Princess Bride' which we had seen, collectively, about a hundred times before. I still can't believe I lost in Hearts, Euchre, _and_ Bullshit, but we had fun, and more importantly we had Maggieritas. Later, we decided to go out back to the pond behind Anne's apartment, this leads to the highlight of the evening as I discover a canoe on the bank and proceed to go down and get into it because someone has spotted a "duck" sitting out on the water. Well, I paddled out with my hands and managed to hit the "duck" with the bow of the canoe. Needless to say, it was not a duck or any other living thing, but just a big piece of submerged driftwood. So, despite our canoeing trip being cancelled, one of us still managed to have his fun with a canoe. After that we sit awhile, and Maggie and I are the last to turn in at 4:30. Mercifully, I didn't have to get up until noon, and since no one else was any more energetic we just chilled at Anne's until our departing dinner at BD's Mongolian BBQ. What a great place! I only wish I had the stomach capacity for more and more and more. Finally, goodbyes are said, upcoming Socials are mentioned, and promises are made TENTATIVELY.
