There was an actual Social report lurking about for this somewhere, but it seems to be lost in the overall clutter of my "to sort" folder, so it shall have to wait. No surprise there...perhaps a summary will do.
This was a typical Chicago Social, with Anne Willick and myself arriving on Friday afternoon to finish up shopping with Kenn for the evening's dinner. Kenn and I have taken to choosing out-of-the-ordinary menus, and inviting whoever is in town for dinner the night before a Social. This time 'round, we had Garlic Saffron Soup, Bacon-wrapped Dates, Tuscan Mushroom Toasts, Garlic Potato Salad, and Anise Glazed Cornish Hens, as well as two or three wines, and pie and ice cream for dessert. It's really a wonder any of us can move after such a dinner, but we always manage. Dinner was attended by Kenn, Anne, Madhu, Pam, Novak, Kevin Mooney and myself.
We were joined on Saturday by Mike Kozlowski for a trip into Evanston to The Stars Our Destination, then, after lazing about Kenn's for a bit, met up with Stephen Dranger and his friend (whose name unfortunately escapes me at the moment) at BD's Mongolian Barbecue for a fun dinner and much teasing of Kenn and his "Snow Jobs". More merriment followed at Kenn's until the wee hours, and Kenn's hysterically funny roommate, Matt, showed up just a little bit intoxicated...OK, a lot intoxicated, but he was funny as hell that way! ("Are you done yet? 'Cause, like, wow!")
On Sunday, we met Madhu in his lab at Northwestern, where we played around a bit and took a few pictures, before heading for Ghirardelli to satisfy my usual chocolate cravings with an Earthquake. Not too much later, Anne and I were off for our corner of civilization.
The photos were taken by Madhu and me, we were obviously being quite silly.
